Founding a company in Zug: the address question
In 2025, 3,688 companies were newly entered in the commercial register of canton Zug, around 300 a month, and every one of them needs an address. What is required, where the difference between your own registered domicile and a c/o address lies, and why pure mailbox solutions run into limits.
What the commercial register requires
The entry needs a registered domicile with street, number, postcode and municipality. The decisive question is whether the company can actually use the address, for example through ownership, a lease or a sublease. If it can, that is its own registered domicile.
Without that right of use it becomes a c/o address. A domicile holder then has to be entered who confirms in writing that they grant the company a registered domicile at that address. Both variants are permissible, but the c/o arrangement is visible in the commercial register extract to anyone who pulls it.

Why the cheapest solution is not always the simplest
A pure mailbox domicile costs little and often satisfies the formal requirement. The friction comes later: when opening a business account and a bank examines your actual activity; with clients who pull the commercial register extract and see the domicile holder; and with the question of where you actually work and meet people.
If you rent premises, that question does not arise. The address decision is therefore less about cost than about consistency: the address should match what the company actually does.

Which address does a company in canton Zug need?+
The commercial register requires a registered domicile with street, number, postcode and municipality. Is a mailbox enough as a company address?+
No. A pure PO box or mailbox service does not meet the requirements; a physical address with a clear allocation is needed. How a specific case is assessed is decided by the commercial register office, so have it clarified before you incorporate.
